Cow & Calf Prices

Latest information from DDC Wales shows that for the week ending 05/05/10:

• The average price of recorded cows and heifers fell when compared to the previous week.
• The average price of commercial cows rose when compared with the previous week, while the average price of commercial heifers fell.  

In Wales, the average price of recorded heifers stood at £1,520/head for the week ending 05/05/10, a fall of 9.5% compared to the previous week. Recorded cows fell by 29.0% between the week ending 28/04/10 and the week ending 05/05/10. In the same period commercial cow prices averaged £1,300/head a rise of £200/head (18.2%), and commercial heifer prices fell by 5.0% to an average of £1,620/head.

Wales Calf Prices

• The average price of all calves rose between the week ending 05/05/10 and the week ending 28/04/10, with the exception of beef heifers which fell £16/head to average £172/head.
• It should be noted that there are normally a low number of Friesian/Holstein heifer calves sold and therefore the average price will be significantly affected by the quality and therefore price of particular animals.
